Ice Hockey (example for students)

I lived in Canada for a year and in this country Ice Hockey is the most popular sport. Every time I think about Ice Hockey reminds me about Canada and the wonderful time I spent there. I even tried to play the sport, but it was quite hard, especially at the very beginning because I didn't even know ice skating!

Ice Hockey is a team sport played in an ice rink. In each team there are 5 skaters and a goalkeeper. The aim of the sport is to throw the puck into the other team's goal, the team that scores more goals wins the match. Each match lasts 60 minutes, divided in three periods of 20 minutes each. Apparently, the Mi'kmaq (a Native American tribe in eastern Canada) were the first ones playing a game similar to Ice Hockey. Nevertheless, the sport as we know nowadays was developed by the Irish who emigrated in the 19th century to Canada as they started playing hockey (which was already a popular game in Europe) on the ice. Nowadays it is mostly played in areas with a cold climate such as Canada, north of the USA, Sweden, Finland, Russia...

The blog, what for?

Hi everyone! The aim of this blog is to learn English in an amusing way. First of all, you need to choose a particular sport you like. Once you have chosen the sport, you need to create a blog. It is very easy to create one and it won't take you much time. Go to blogger and follow the steps (you need to have a gmail account, so if you don't have an account you need to create one before starting doing the blog). When you have already created the blog post a comment on this text with a link to your blog.

Further details will be available on this blog. Any suggestions or problems will be discussed in class. See you all on tuesday,

Shanti
